Being Healthy with Small Steps

January 30th, 2008 admin

Exercise, exercise, exercise! It’s the single most important thing you can encourage your child to do for health. There is a wonderful TV campaign now about exercise and how healthy food can help our children win. You can also see these advertisements on the Small Step website.

This website, www.smallstep.gov, which is a service of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services will help you make small changes for optimal health. “Get up and play an hour a day” and “Be a Player” is the mantra to encourage children to run, throw, think and eat better. The step challenges and activities on the site will be enjoyed by all.

You will also learn which foods are rich in fiber (good for your heart), how fruits help you see better (vitamin A) and provide vitamin C. Children will also learn how lean meats give you protein to build strong muscles and what foods are the sources for potassium, calcium, and iron. It is a family friendly site.

Better Life Unlimited has two PDFs that will give you a complete family list of Small Steps and information on sources for phytonutrients. You can find more information about Better Life Unlimited in our newsletter archives in the month of April 2007, “Want a Better Life.”
